Hollywood sign This famous sign was originally built in 1923 for $21,000 as a real estate advertisement. At that time, it said "HOLLYWOODLAND." The lettering "LAND." was removed in 1949. Each letter is 30ft wide and 50ft high.
Fisherman's Wharf sign San Francisco is famous for Dungeness crab, among other things. Crab season opens in November. A century ago, it started with a procession and religious blessing for a good harvest.
Las Vegas sign Las Vegas is Spanish for "The Meadows." It was founded as a city in 1905.
